– Discover the freedom of creating Modern Botanical – no rules only loose Watercolour – With Artist – Wyn Vogel
Wyn will work with you to understand the structure of the rose – as an example and then work with you to practice the textures you can create with the lose flow of water and pigment in sample form for leaves and textures such as the banksia or gum nuts and gum leaves – then by the end of the day you will be ready to explore the design of your botanical either in glass or simply laying on the ‘Florist Table’ as below!

So for this Workshop, we will look at this and other café scenes from images we have captured on our holidays in Europe and understand what attracted us to these places ………… apart from the memory of what happened there!

In the image above the colours of the umbrellas, the flowers and the fruit all add pops of colour – as we look at the composition of this Market we will analyse how these colours add to the depth of field in the photo and subsequently in our paintings.

Your ticket includes a $25 Voucher for your Picnic Lunch at Bird’s Nest Restaurant – who share the Deck with me – their lunch bowls are yummy and the ticket will cover the cost of a lunch bowl and a drink of your choice.

This will be a fun day – as we have discovered the artwork we all admire from our Chinese and Japanese Artist cousins – is not so easy to do – but so much fun to experiment and in this Chinese – Year of the Dragon, why not!

This Workshop is for Artists who have always been interested in Watercolour but who would like to discover more fluid options and conquer the medium – We will complete the 3 days starting with some beginning exercises and build up to a completed artwork or 2 by the end of the 3 days!

*** Remember we have a new Restaurant open on the deck with us – Bird’s Nest Yakitori Restaurant >>> https://www.birdsnest.co/locations-and-menus/west-end/ – Marie and her Team open at 12 noon on a Saturday so if you want to linger on and enjoy lunch – get a group of friends together – come and Workshop and then do lunch – this isn’t a ‘Picnic and Paint’ but you can still extend your day if you like!

Each Workshop will be loaded with the idea of exploring a specific technique – in this 1st Workshop we will explore the concepts of shadows and perspective – how to position your subjects and the colours of shadows – what are these and how to use them?

Workshops will be loaded separately so you can BOOK 1 or more as you have time to paint 🌞🎨 the current dates planned are:

Saturday – 3rd February 2024 – Shadows and Perspective

Saturday – 17th February 2024 – Modern Botanical – this is an ongoing exploration with Artist and Curator of Fish Lane Studios – Wyn Vogel – whose loose watercolour technique allows the imagery to flow off the paper!

Saturday – 2nd March 2024 – Waterways – Sea and River – potentially a Guest Artist to be confirmed as part of this Workshop – watch this space!
