The Plan | For this Picnic and Paint Day

10am – start @ our New Fish Lane Studios – underneath Botanica Residences – 4 Edmondstone Street – South Brisbane Qld 4101 – we will discuss what is available with respect to new plein air sketching tools – pens – papers and techniques!

10.30 am – head to the beautiful rooftop deck of Botanica to select a location to sketch and model your painting subject/s – we’re looking for icons of Brisbane. You basically will have a 360 degree view across Brisbane to choose from!

11.30 ish – depending on our progress – we will comeback down to the Studio – to discuss options for composition and style of your finished painting – whether or not you want to create a representative image or a more abstracted emotive feel of what you have experienced viewing Brisbane from the Sky Deck!

12 noon – picnic lunch will be brought across to the Studio from BillyKart Restaurant with a glass of wine of choice or tea/coffee

12.30 pm to 3pm – we will mask up the image and discuss techniques for different watercolour wash or other techniques to create a finished work.

Bring your normal plein air kit for painting – including |

  • A hard board to attach your paper to while sketching and painting
  • A Sketch pad for initial concepts and ideas while working on the Sky Deck
  • Your paint box and sketching pencils/tools that you would normally use – we will showcase some new mediums to you during this Workshop day.
  • Paper – 300gsm cold pressed – 2 full sheets 56 x 78 (Brand of your choice – Moulin du Roy | Arches | Fabriano – we will also showcase to you new substrates that are available for you to experiment on.
