You will be – Mastering the use of tone, colour, light and shadows is essential for successful watercolour paintings and learning how to create atmospheric impressions to suit a variety of subjects while discovering the differences in natural and artificial light.

With a combination of theory, demonstrations and individual projects, you will gain new skills for manipulating subject matter to depict different moods and effects.

A Boutique Class with Artist Jan Lawnikanis – PAINT and PENCILS – Combining watercolours and colour pencils for a range of subjects.

Watercolours and colour pencils are a perfect match and this workshop will explore how to use them together in individual ways. “Failed’ watercolour paintings can be improved with the addition of pencils or they can be used simultaneously as a mixed-media artwork. Be surprised by the range of surfaces compatible with using these mediums together.

Techniques with aquarelle (water-soluble colour pencils) will also be covered. It’s quite rare to find workshops with these pencils, but students will learn many tips on how to get professional results.

Some basic experience with watercolour is essential, but newcomers to colour pencil art are welcome.

NOTE: Aquarelle Pencils will be available for sale in the Studio, along with paints and paper – if you need them, but please, check the booking page for materials to bring.
