A collaboration between artists …….
Our Fish Lane Curator and Artist – Wyn Vogel with Pam Walpole and Yanni Van Zijl of Art forARTsake Noosa has transformed “The Lookout” on Floor 2 of Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane for the start of the New Year – 2019………..
Pam has installed a hanging web of nature-inspired forms and flying manta rays, all created from plastic milk bottles. The ‘Installation’ uses elements from Pam and Yanni’s previous installations including ‘In Harmony’, first shown at the Noosa Regional Gallery, and which has now become a signature of these two Artists. Their aim is to create art installations that are vital, vibrant to draw attention to environmental waste.
Many of their artworks carry a strong message, so they create artwork from discarded or sustainable materials. These stingrays and coral reef have been made from recycled plastic milk bottles to enforce the message of the dangers of discarded plastic floating in our oceans which threatens all marine life.
Created specifically for Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane by artist Wyn Vogel in 2016, “The Lookout” incorporates film and fine art by Wyn, and is a unique in-hospital experience intended to create an immersive space that provides our patients and staff with a place to reflect, take a break and feel connected to nature from inside the hospital.
For the start of 2019 – Wyn Invited Artist – Pam Walpole to showcase her gorgeous Sculptural Sea Forms!
No ‘Installation’ comes together without prior planning and hard work – Artist and Sculptor Pam Walpole down on her knees stringing one of 3 large Manta Rays ready to hang!
We even roped in Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane – Art Curator – Fiona Forrest to help hang …
With the existing project and music from Wyn’s film and studio work, incorporating Works by Musicians Elena Kats-Chernin and Matthew Hindson – thanks to their permission and The Hush Music Foundation – the space became an ethereal transformation of it’s former self – now ready for a new group of patients and staff to enjoy – we hope!!
The Finished Product
Patients feel like they are at the beach or the mountains – without leaving their Clinical Care!
It is an incentive for the Patients to get out of bed – bring their coffee and talk with their family or friends in a relaxing space.
Listen to the birds and now thanks to Pam and her amazing Work – watch the Manta Rays float above!
Thanks Pam – up and down the ladders is not easy – much appreciated!! ?
The ‘Installation’ is only one component of the Saint Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane – Art Program that Fiona oversees – she changes every six months the wonderful Exhibition of 2D Artwork that sits along the walkways and on every floor of The Hospital! Hats off to Fiona and all the other artists that support this Work – congratulations!
