Nature Calling – Kimberley Region WA – Diggers Rest Station!
A big tick to our desire to paint in a remote and rural part of Australia for our interim year of our Australian Watercolour Muster Calendars – with a big thanks to Rachel and partner Andrew of On The Verandah – Art Workshops with Danny working hard and little Charlie giving us advice organising and looking after us travelling with them 4 x 4 from Kununurra WA initially to Wuggubun Community for 2 nights camping and then to our hosts at Diggers Rest Station – Alida and Roderick
What Caught Our Eyes – and made our brushes move?
Magic afternoon light – The Colours of the Saw Ranges – Wuggubun Community WA
Another afternoon – at Diggers Rest Station – WA
Closer into camp – the light caught our visiting Artist from Ireland – Ana Dolan!
We were excited to share with Artists from all around Australia as well as our visitor from Ireland – Ana Dolan – thanks to everyone who joined us for this amazing trip – we can only say this was a magic seven days – discovering, walking and painting together – Works from these seven days will form part of our Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale – 2025 Exhibition in Cairns Queensland Australia next year – September 2025 – mark the dates in your diary!!
Softer lights from the Waterlily Ponds that surprisingly dot the landscape –
with their unique Blue/Purple Waterlilies unique to the Kimberley WA
A wonderful ‘Welcome To Country’ and evening chatting with Aimee – Traditional Owner and carer of Wuggubun Community!
Our fossicking and discovery of the textures of the rugged landscapes were an opportunity for Artist Wyn Vogel to share her techniques for mixing colours and capturing the light and shapes of this unique country.
We took the paper and impregnated it with the ochre from the road and then superimposed texture using the natural elements of the Pandanus Pods – nuts from the gum trees and the fibre from the palm trees – before adding the graphic elements that captured our eyes!
A Tutors techniques is one thing but it’s a thrill to see everyone – taking these ideas and techniques and making them their own – in style and colour – magic moments to watch taking shape!
Celebrating our end of our Painting Trip with a Champagne Exhibition – thanks again to Rachel, Andrew, Alida and Roderick and Danny!
Keep an eye on the Dates for our
Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale – 2025
A full Program is currently in the planning phase and will be released early 2025
Big thanks to all involved in planning and visiting this amazing Kimberley Country!

Judy – this was the most amazing week sharing with you and our other Artists who came with us, the care Rachel from ‘On The Verandah’ and Diggers Rest took of us was magic and I learnt so much from each of you as we experimented and explored The Kimberley together – I can’t wait for the next time we can do this!! Thanks for letting me know xx
