- Arrive 10am to 2.30pm – Friday and discover some techniques for both styles of artwork –
- Saturday 10am to 2.30pm – explore the hidden secrets of the Southern Grampians with these two Artists, this is a ‘Self Drive Expedition’ and have a night on the town in Hamilton – Dinner included in the Ticket Price.
- Sunday 10am to 2.30pm – back to the warm Studio in front of the slow combustion stove to finish your Artworks!

What’s Included –
- A warm Studio – for the main days of painting – plenty of space to paint and learn from 2 totally different styles of artwork – but 2 comprehensive Tutors!
- The chance to meet other Artists from across Australia as well as local Western District Artists – we will share our secret views and painting spots on the Saturday in the Grampians National Park – PLEASE NOTE: this will be a self/share drive expedition to meet at a designated spot where we will draw with inspiration from the local scenery – Artist Wyn Vogel will share her techniques for capturing the landscape and Artist Julie Reason will continue sharing her techniques for capturing the Australian Botanicals that abound in this regions of the Southern Grampians!
- Dinner Saturday Evening – Venue TBA – Dinner price is included in the ‘Long Weekend’ Ticket!
- Sunday back in the warm Studio we will complete a painting/s based on the sketches and rough drafts from the Saturday day out!

Saturday – we will have time to browse in the Grampians – Halls Gap and forage for BYO lunch!
Art Materials to Bring With You:
All of these items listed below are available to buy in Studio if you don’t have them – !
- At least 3 sheet Arches 300gsm Cold Pressed Watercolour Paper
- And some smaller sheets of watercolour paper or sketch books to try out ideas and work on for our Plein Air Day in the Grampians –
PAINTS | Watercolour Paints we prefer you to use ‘Tubes’ – Watercolour Pencils – Watercolour Inks –
but please bring whatever colours you have in your kit – But for the landscapes these are an idea:
- Ultramarine Blue
- Indigo
- Cadmium Yellow – Deep
- Phthalo Blue
- Perylene Green
- Alizarin Crimson and/or Deep Cadmium Red – or similar colours – you are welcome to bring colours of your favourite roses see the images on the montage of Roses
For the Botanicals – these are an idea:
- Olive Green
- Terre Verte Yellow Shade
- Sap Green
- Burnt Sienna
- Yellow Ochre
- Burnt Umber
- Ivory Black
Brushes – at least those below –
but please bring whatever brushes you have in your kit:
Brushes for the Landscapes – at least 1 of each brush below – more will help you:
- 1 each x 1/2 inch and 3/4inch Angle Shader
- 1 x wide wash brush at least 2 inches in width – for wet work, we recommend the 2 inch Art Spectrum Soft Varnish Brush – I would recommend you have at least 2 with you, and
- 1 x wide dry brush at least 2 inches in width – feel it with you hand and maker sure it is very soft Goat Hair recommended – for dry work –
- 1 x Squirrel Needle point or Chinese style calligraphy brush for detailed line work and layering of your colours – we recommend No10 – NEEF Squirrel Needle Point – see the images below and on the cover photo for guidance!
Brushes for the Botanical Works:
- Rounds – 1, 2, 5, 6, 12
- Filbert 4, 8
Pencils:
- For Wyn – a HB or 2B pencil and if you would like a rubber
- Julie uses an F Pencil for sketching.
Other Tools:
- Julie uses an eye dropper to mix the paints with the water – please bring a palette tray to put your paints on from the tubes.
- 1 x old kitchen spray bottle – washed out and ready to have clean water to spray across your paints – I recommend an old ‘Windex’ Bottle of similar to give you a good spray of water.
- Hair dryer to dry your work between layers
- Backing board to tape your sample papers down (core board or similar from Bunnings) and tape to manage your paper – we don’t use an easel we tape the paper to the backing board so we can move the paper and tilt or turn as needed to manage your paint and water.
Remember to BYO your own lunch for Friday and Saturday – we are not sure about coping with people’s dietary needs so appreciate your support in bringing your lunches so we can focus on the painting side of things with you – there is a microwave in the Studio and a fridge – Tea and Coffee are available all day!
Accommodation Recommendation
For those coming from out of town – there are a number of motels and a caravan park if you are driving a camper van – however, we would recommend:
